May is for Birthdays

Open House

This May we are celebrating lots of things. My 44th birthday, Nate’s 44th birthday, our chickens hatch-day (they are a year old!), the official start of Lantern Farm MN LLC, and getting my MN Cottage Food license. Join us for party/open house to celebrate with us, there will be snacks/treats, games, and lots of animals.

When – Saturday May 31, drop-in anytime between 1:00 – 4:00 PM

Where – 16100 S Diamond Lake Rd, Dayton MN 55327

Who – you, partners, spouses, favored enemies, kids; but no pets please

Details:

Parking – please park on the grass along the east side of our driveway and possibly the east side of the barn if it is dry enough. There is no parking on South Diamond Lake Rd.

Footwear – we have free range chickens which means we have free range chicken poop, please choose your footwear accordingly. (The house is chicken poop free but to keep it that way it also means it is shoe free.)

Fence – we have an electric fence. The second from the top line is the ground line and if you touch only that line nothing happens, but if you touch any of the other lines it will hurt. If you touch one of the other lines while also touching the ground line it will hurt a LOT. The lines at little kid height are all hot lines and will hurt, so please warn your children.

Animals – All animals live outside 100% of the time

Chickens – free range really means free range. Many of them will investigate you, some of them like being petted, a few are okay being picked up. None of them like being chased. This can be hard sometimes because chickens are very chaseable, but please do not chase the chickens.

Horses – we have two horses (Highlight and Tally) and a pony (Juniper). You are welcome to meet Highlight and Tally over the gate with Nate or I but Tally is young and was rescued from a feral herd not that long ago and we’re still working on her overall manners (she tends to treat people like horses, which isn’t bad but not always ideal). You are also welcome to come in and meet Juniper in her space with Nate or I, she loves butt and back scritches.

Dog – Otis is our 7-year old Great Pyrenees Livestock Guardian Dog. No one has told him this and he is pretty terrified of most everything, including people. He will mostly hide behind Nate or I and may come out and boop you briefly before hiding again. He lives down by the chickens and will be there throughout the party. We don’t want to stress him out unnecessarily so meeting him will depend on how he handles so many new people that day and may or may not be an option.

Cat – Cleo is a rescued cat who was also feral until recently. She mostly hates everything and everyone but she has started to tolerate me and seems to genuinely like Nate. She will most likely spend the day hiding and we’ll let her do that in peace.

RSVP is not required but is nice so we have an idea how much food to have – text Sara or Nate.
No gifts for us; though the chickens like bugs, and apples, and most anything they can get their beaks on; the horses like carrots and apples and the grass that is JUST on the other side of the fence.
